As Erlbaum enters the final stage of planning a painting, he often writes ‘COLOR’ in his dotted notebook. The majority of his Journal series uses exactly the same six colors. Erlbaum has recently upset the continuity, replacing yellow and red with titanium and ochre in “Four Light” and “Four Dark.” Erlbaum continues to experiment in “Brushstroke Light” and “Brushstroke Dark,” juxtaposing larger letters with smaller ones and grey areas with areas of color.
